Lawmakers in New Mexico have come up with an idea to ban people convicted of a DUI from purchasing alcohol. Do you think this will work?
I, for one, have my doubts. This country has tried prohibition and it didn’t work for us. If people want to drink they will always find a way to do so. Criminalizing it will only make more problems.
What’s disturbing is that lawmakers are coming up with these oddball penalties without putting thought into actually addressing the root of the problem. There needs to be better preventative measures and educational programs to keep drunk drivers off the roads in the first place.
These oddball penalties are mostly political moves which have very little practical effect.
